Liverpool Football Club have today
confirmed Martin Skrtel has signed a new long-term contract.
The defender has been subject to constant
speculation regarding his future throughout the transfer window, with a host of
clubs monitoring his situation.
Signed by Rafael Benitez in 2008 from
Zenit, Skrtel went on to win Player of the Season for The Reds last season
forming a solid partnership with Daniel Agger.
Speaking to the official website, the 27
year old had this to say:
“I'm happy because I am a part of one of the biggest
clubs in the world,"
"After
last season there was a lot of talk about my future but I have to say that the
first priority for me was always to sign a new deal with Liverpool.”
"I hope I can create history at
this club and that the fans will always remember me - that's my target for the
future."
