Lucas aiming for pre-season return

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has claimed he is eyeing a pre-season return to action.

Lucas’ season was cut short back in November when he suffered cruciate ligament damage in a 2-0 victory against Chelsea in the Carling Cup.

The injury forced the tough tackling midfielder to undergo an operation and subsequently missed the remainder of the season.

Speaking to Brazilian TV channel Sportv, he said: "I'm in the final stage of my recovery. I've been recovering for six months.”

He added, "I am currently in the physical stage, aiming to be back for pre-season, so that I can be back on the pitch as soon as possible."

Liverpool have sorely missed Lucas’ presence in the middle of the pitch and will be hoping that the Brazilian’s prediction is in fact correct and see him return to action as soon as possible.
