Kenny Dalglish leaves LFC

Kenny Dalglish has left the managerial role of Liverpool Football Club. The decision comes after crunch talks in Boston earlier in the week.

Principal owners John Henry and Tom Werner were reportedly unhappy at the form shown in the Barclays Premier League after Liverpool failed to mount a serious challenge on the Champions League positions.

Speaking to the official website, John Henry said "Kenny will always be more than a championship winning manager, more than a championship winning star player. He is in many ways the heart and soul of the club. He personifies everything that is good about Liverpool Football Club. He has always put the Club and its supporters first. Kenny will always be a part of the family at Anfield."

Fenway Sports Group appointed Dalglish in January 2011, taking over from Roy Hodgson as  Liverpool were 5 points above the relegation zone. He salvaged a poor campaign and ended the season in a respectable 6th place, narrowly missing out on European football.

As a result, he was then offered a 3 year contract in May. Since then, Liverpool haven't been able to replicate the consistent form shown in Kenny's caretaker stint and ended the year in 8th, with 52 points, the lowest in the club's Premiership history.

Kenny Dalglish will leave adding a League Cup to the trophy cabinet , the first piece of silverware for 6 years at Anfield. He also led Liverpool to a FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea, which they lost 2-1.
He had this to say "It has been an honour and a privilege to have had the chance to come back to Liverpool Football Club as Manager."

Adding "I would like to thank all of the staff at the Club for their effort and loyalty. I said when first approached about coming back as Manager that I would always be of help if I can at any time and that offer remains the same."

"Finally, I want to put on record my heartfelt gratitude to Liverpool's fans, who have always given me and the Club their unwavering support. Without them neither the Club nor I would have achieved anything."
